Scalloped-edge Sweetgrass Fanner Basket is made of bulrush, sweetgrass, and pine needles which are bound with strips of palmetto. Fanners were one of the first known baskets used in the Lowcountry during rice cultivation. Fanners were used for rice winnowing, a process used to separate the chaff from the rice.
Approximate dimensions - from scalloped-edge to scalloped-edge 20 1/2” and base 12”.
