I have been weaving sweetgrass baskets for over 50 years having learned the artistry from my mother. These baskets and the art of weaving sweetgrass baskets represent a rich history. Though each basket is unique whether large or small, round or oval, traditional or non-traditional, they tell the same story. Each piece represents history. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1606009783501-MYBIW232OHHN5PNPE6R2/IMG_0939.jpeg Contact - Sweetgrass basket weaving is a tradition dating back to the 17th century. Enslaved individuals from West Africa brought basketry skills to plantations.. One type of sweetgrass baskets — called Fanners — were used to winnow rice. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1606009964573-66E3QSP21VLQU644GRUH/IMG_3582+2.jpg Contact - Sweetgrass baskets have transformed from a tool during slavery to an art form. This tradition is passed down from generation to generation, preserving a piece of Gullah Geechee culture. Basket makers are mostly concentrated in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. Spotted along the highways in Mount Pleasant and Charleston, local artisans sell their work in basket stands. https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/contact daily 0.75 2020-11-22 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop daily 0.75 2021-01-24 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246063810-41QGKVJ12H62M4FTBZOT/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.27.35+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597245971156-5HE3JO2YCUNWVOYCOUY0/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.25.35+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246032934-ZLHW59RS6MINL31YTTHF/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.27.02+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246726487-IZ7GV74112IQZIPQ1H71/Screen%252BShot%252B2020-08-12%252Bat%252B11.28.48%252BAM.jpg Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246648592-BO8BIKVTTUDLCPQMCNG8/Screen%2BShot%2B2020-08-12%2Bat%2B11.29.54%2BAM.jpg Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246259533-WVTLLUWFBP7XS4YA31UD/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.30.45+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246280075-AYEM7K46KRJXJ2CF4M2T/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.31.13+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246343449-WM5X8T7LD3C0GAE5UT3F/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.32.16+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1597246369732-NUNFY6ZCIGDILRADHB0O/Screen+Shot+2020-08-12+at+11.32.40+AM.png Shop Reviews from my Etsy shop https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/baskets monthly 0.5 2026-08-06 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/home monthly 0.5 2023-07-02 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/home-decor monthly 0.5 2023-07-02 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/jewelry monthly 0.5 2021-06-10 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/jewelry/necklace monthly 0.5 2023-07-02 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/pendant monthly 0.5 2021-01-23 https://www.sweetgrassbydesign.com/shop/p/gyfqiwqqpv9egs1q27z9ryn6kn3lzu monthly 0.5 2026-10-10 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f337e7c1ba5c51f4067cc19/1791027515604-8PJAUJTF69RKGB5W50WZ/DABC14B7-70BB-4B56-923E-A999BF9ED441.jpeg Shop -
